Let’s Get to Know Each Other: Inside the Interview Process
At Visa, interviews are more than conversations - they’re opportunities to connect, share your story, and explore how your strengths align with our mission to uplift everyone, everywhere by being the best way to pay and be paid. We believe every candidate deserves a thoughtful, respectful process, and each interaction reflects our commitment to inclusivity, impact, and growth.
As you prepare, take the time to learn about Visa – who we are, what drives us, and how your experience connects to the opportunities ahead. Together, we will explore how your contribution can help deliver meaningful impact while aligning with Visa’s purpose and leadership principles.

Inside the Interview: What to Expect When You Meet with Visa
Our Talent Acquisition team follows a structured and inclusive approach that reflects our core values and culture. While the specifics may vary depending on the role, location, or level, here’s a general overview of what you can expect.
-
If you require an accommodation to participate in the application or interview process, please email us at [email protected]. To learn more about how Visa supports accessibility and inclusion, please review our Code of Conduct.
Let’s Get to Know Each Other
Prescreen Interview
- Your recruiter will conduct an initial screening to review your basic qualifications, discuss your background, and confirm your alignment for the role and Visa’s values. Depending on the region, this step may occur later in the hiring process.
Interview Coordination
- A Talent Acquisition team member will contact you via our applicant tracking system, which you applied through, to coordinate interview scheduling. Please respond promptly with your availability to keep the process moving smoothly.
Interview Rounds
-
While dependent on role or level, you will typically participate in two to four interview rounds. Most interviews will be virtual, but the team may also request an onsite visit. During this phase, interviews are usually held with the hiring manager and various team members and typically range from 30 to 60 minutes in duration. We encourage you to turn on your camera—this helps us build rapport and create a better interview experience.
Assessment Criteria
- Depending on the role, you may be asked to complete a technical assessment or case study. These are designed to highlight your strengths and how you think, build, and grow.
Post-Interview Follow-Up
- We’ll keep you informed throughout the candidate journey. Whether it’s an offer, a referral to another role, or a decision to move forward with another candidate, we aim to communicate with transparency and care.
Own Your Interview: Find the Preparation Style That Brings Out Your Best
Preparing for interviews looks different for everyone. Whether you thrive in mock interview settings, prefer using the STAR method to structure your responses, or find clarity through quiet reflection, the key is to choose a preparation style that helps you feel confident and authentic. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s to showcase your strengths, communicate your experiences clearly, and demonstrate how you approach challenges.

If you require an accommodation to participate in the application or interview process, please email us at [email protected]. To learn more about how Visa supports accessibility and inclusion, please review our Code of Conduct.
You’ve Got the Experience—STAR Helps You Tell It with Impact
There are many effective ways to prepare—use the method(s) that work best for you. The STAR Method is just one that can help you answer behavioral and situational questions in a structured and impactful way:
S - Situation: Set the scene by describing the context or background of the challenge. What was happening, and who was involved?
T - Task: Explain your specific responsibility. What goal were you working toward, and what was expected of you?
A - Action: Describe the steps you took. Focus on your approach, actions, and the skills or tools you use.
R - Result: Share the outcome. What was the result of your actions? Highlight achievements, lessons learned, or the impact you made.
We look forward to learning about your experiences and how they have prepared you to thrive at Visa.
Tech Interviews Are a Chance to Shine—Show Us How You Think, Build, and Grow
- Review technical fundamentals: Brush up on the coding languages listed in the job description and revisit the software development lifecycle.
-
Know your resume: Be ready to discuss your past projects, what you contributed, what you learned, and how you handled challenges like tight deadlines or unfamiliar technologies.
-
Communicate during coding exercises:
- Talk through your solution before writing code.
-
Ask your interviewer if your approach sounds reasonable.
-
Run your code early and often—don’t wait until the end.
-
Ask questions: If you’re stuck, ask clarifying questions and listen carefully to feedback.
-
Show your passion: Mention any hackathons, open-source projects, or tech events you’ve participated in.
-
Demonstrate a growth mindset: It’s okay not to know everything—show how you approach learning and problem-solving.
-
Be concise and specific: Keep your responses focused and aim to explain examples in 3–5 minutes.
AI Use in Interviews: What You Need to Know
Visa interviewers may use Microsoft Copilot transcription during your interview for the sole purpose of taking notes. If you do not consent to the use of Copilot, please let your interviewer know as soon as possible so that the interviewer can plan to record their notes manually. You may withdraw your consent for transcription at any time, and this will not impact your application or consideration for the role.
For security purposes, Visa does not allow use of any third-party tools or audio/visual recording or transcription initiated by candidates during the interview process. Therefore, use of AI during your interview(s), including using it to provide answers to interview questions, is strictly prohibited. Failure to observe this directive may result in the immediate termination of an interview and disqualification from the hiring process. Should you require an accommodation, please inform your recruiter prior to your interview.
