Making a positive impact in communities across Aotearoa

You might know Hato Hone St John because of our ambulance services. We're always there in an emergency, serving New Zealanders and working to save lives since 1885. As well as providing Ambulance Services across Aotearoa, we also play an important role in meeting the broader health needs of New Zealand communities.

Through our programmes and support, we're helping to build strong, resilient communities for the wellbeing of all, and supporting everyone in Aotearoa to live healthier, happier, and longer lives.

Here at Hato Hone St John, the possibilities are limitless. You can join us as a frontline paramedic, respond to 111 calls, deliver first aid education, participate in our community programs, or become part of our corporate services team. In each position, you'll play a vital role in providing care, comfort and help to those facing health challenges in their everyday lives. And of course, in an emergency, large or small, we are there for all New Zealanders.

He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata

Our people are our greatest asset. We actively recognise and reward our people and celebrate their achievements; from providing initiatives that develop careers to looking after our people’s health, wellbeing, and futures - all whilst creating a workplace where everyone belongs.

We reward our people with wellbeing support, staff and volunteer recognition programmes, awesome discounts with retail partners and gyms, superannuation, and for some of our roles, medical insurance is provided. Many of our roles also offer flexible working and fulfilling work-life balance.

We're dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace. Our diverse employee networks - groups across Māori, Pasifika, Rainbow, Young People, Mature, Access, Women, Faith, Asian, and other ethnicities - reflect the communities we serve, empowering our team to deliver exceptional health and wellbeing outcomes for all in Aotearoa.

Our commitment to Māori health equity

Our passion to support Māori health equity is driven by our Aka Strategy, a plan that represents our commitment to progressing the aspirations of Te Tīriti o Waitangi and outlines a path to improve Māori health outcomes in Aotearoa.

At times, staff and volunteers of Hato Hone St John are the first and only point of contact people have with the health and disability system in Aotearoa. It’s our responsibility to ensure that Māori can access our services as easily as other people living in Aotearoa. By joining us, you’ll be to support making life-changing differences every day for communities across the motu.

We're committed to ensuring our application process is accessible to everyone. If you require assistance or accommodations, please reach out to our recruitment team at [email protected] or call 0800 ST JOHN.
