At Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we provide comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to our local population across South-East Hampshire. We also offer tertiary services to a wider catchment in excess of two million people.

The Trust employs around 8,700 staff and is one of the largest employers in Portsmouth.

Our hospital is also home to the Joint Hospital Group (South), the largest of the UK’s four military hospital units. More than 200 military medical personnel work alongside NHS colleagues to care for our patients.

We are also fortunate to have a dedicated community of volunteers, including our award-winning Pets as Therapy team, who make a huge contribution to the Trust, going above and beyond by giving up their valuable time to provide support to our patients.

What Sets Us Apart?

  • We are home to the Wessex Kidney Centre, which is the third largest renal unit in England, providing a comprehensive renal service to around 2.4 million adults across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the adjacent parts of Wiltshire, West Sussex, Berkshire and Surrey.

  • We were the first Trust in the UK to provide robot-assisted knee replacement surgery on the NHS to reduce pain and recovery times.

  • A designated cancer centre serving a population of approximately 800,000 within southern Hampshire. The centre is part of the Central and South Coast Cancer Network.

  • Our critical care facilities are rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission

  • Our core values of "Working together, for patients, with compassion, as one team, always improving" are embodied in the training, development, and recruitment of our staff and we empower all of our colleagues to identify and make improvements across the services we provide.
